Direct-To-Garment pretreatment liquids that you know on the market are not much. They are mainly offered by DTG ink manufacturers.
Among the different solutions, there are differences in drying times. But the characteristics and the chemical composition are more or less similar between the different products. SK has developed a unique formula, without drawing inspiration from existing products on the market. The result is surprising, it leaves little or no traces and is easy to apply.
The quantity of SK Dark Cotton pretreatment is calculated according to each colour and model of the textile. To calculate the quantity to be sprayed, start from a starting value of +/-20 g for a surface of 30 x 40cm, on a black T-shirt. Run several tests and place your container above a digital scale. Reset it to 0 after each spray.
Take note of the quantity on each trial as well as the machine settings. Then dry, heat press and print the textiles with the standard settings of your machine.
You should have found a reference value for your textile / colour. Remember to keep it well.
First, place your cotton textile in the pretreatment machine. Spray the required dose. Regularly check the scale that your dose of pretreatment liquid doesn't change.
For drying, place your t-shirt for 2 to 4 minutes depending on the power of your drying conveyor. The garment should come out completely dry, with a slightly rough feel. Press to smooth the pretreated area for 5 seconds, using a heat press with strong pressure. Print your textile and dry it again using the tunnel for 3 minutes. Please note, these values are indicative and depend on your equipment and settings.
Second solution, drying with a textile heat press. Place your garment under the press. Set to low to medium pressure (3/4 bar). Press 3 times for 20 seconds with parchment paper above, temperature 180°C.
Our tip let the pre-treatment evaporate overnight. Print the next day. A simple pass under the press for 5 seconds with high pressure will smooth the fibres before printing.
Print the fabric with the usual settings. Then press dry the print with the ink manufacturer's recommended settings.
Our trick, place the press plate 30 seconds to 1 minute above the textile. This prevents the ink from sticking to the platen or teflon sheet before it dries. Please also respect the recommendations of the ink manufacturer.
