Choosing the right DTF Transfer Film – Hot Peel or Cold Peel.

Direct To Film printing requires a PET film (similar material to plastic water bottles or credit cards). However, not every type of hot peel or cold peel transfer film is suitable for the DTF process. Select a film with quality coating that adheres scrupulously to the ink.

Transfer films with fewer coating layers are of lower quality and might be cheaper, but they simply don't match the performance of Premium DTF films. They can stain fashionable clothing, prove incompatible with the ink, or damage your garment. Your elegant design might in addition have a more limited lifespan and peel off quickly, often leaving stains on the designs.

DTF transfers can be applied to various textiles (organic cotton, cotton-polyester blends, polyester, lycra, and more) and other promotional materials. Naturally finding the right DTF ink can be precisely a complex task. While our DTF inks work with a variety of DTF transfer films, we recommend using them with the ones we offer.

High-quality pigmented DTF inks are suitable for all DTF printers, including those using Epson DX5 printheads, Epson i3200-A1 / 4720.

DTF powder or hot melt powder.

Direct To Film printing doesn't transfer directly onto shirts or hoodies. To fix your design, use a special DTF powder. This hot melt DTF adhesive binds the design from your printer to the surface of the textile being printed.

Once fixed, your design conserves a soft transfer feel. The excess DTF powder can be easily stored and reused.

Additionally, consider using a smoke extraction system, either mobile or closed-loop with a simple suction motor and rigid hoses.

Overall, the Direct To Film printing technique is faster and requires less labour than DTG (Direct-To-Garment) printing.

DTF transfers offer excellent wash resistance, akin to screen printing.

Other advantages include more affordable supplies and consumables for DTF. Also, DTF printing uses up less ink, around 40% to 50% less.

How does DTF printing work or how to print a DTF Transfer?

Direct To Film printing is a unique and recent marking technique. It involves printing designs on a transfer film for application to clothing using a heat press.

Specifically, DTF or Direct-To-Film printing is a textile marking process involving heat transfer. DTF is a revolutionary technology allowing users to print patterns on a special transparent polyester film using water-based digital inks.

Next, a hot melt powder is applied to the ink. The DTF transfer film is then dried, and the powder dryer.

Two ways to fix DTF powder and harden it.

Manual: Print your DTF sheet. Cover the ink with powder, remove excess, and harden it employing a heat gun or an A2/A3 DTF transfer sheet oven.

Automatic: A complete DTF printing line consisting of a DTF printer and a powder-drying unit automates these steps. It requires a roll of DTF transfer film. When the printed transfer film comes out, it goes to the DTF hot melt powder applicator and shaker. Excess powder is collected for reuse. The transfer is then conveyed to the drying oven for quick powder hardening.

After this step, the operator heat-presses the transfer design directly onto the textile.
