What is DTF printing?
DTF or Direct-To-Film printing is a revolutionary and recent printing technique that allows direct printing on PET film.
After undergoing a heat curing process, the transfer attaches to a t-shirt with a heat press. It can be applied to many materials like cotton, polyester, lycra, etc. of any colour.
Why use a special transfer film?
A3 sheet for dtf is the film where printing is done. The picture is printed on PET film, a non-absorbent surface, where the ink stays wet. After reproducing your design, add an adhesive powder on the DTF ink, which acts as a glue to fix the printed inks on the support or film and the fibres of the textile.
Tips for using A3 sheet for DTF transfer:
To perform a DTF film transfer with a Brother GTX, an Epson F2100, a Polyprint Texjet and others, we advise you to use a special DTF RIP.
Before printing, apply an indent of 3 to 4 pixels.
DTF printing needs less ink, start your tests with 50% less ink than DTG printing.
Identify the side to be printed by moistening your finger. Switch to the DTF sheet. The stickiest side is the surface to be printed.
Launch your print on your DTF transfer film, apply the powder to all the DTF ink. Ideally harden it in the oven. Let cool.
Stick the transfer with a heat press for 2 minutes at 150°C, allow to cool then remove the DTF transfer film.
Advantages of DTF printing:
Direct to film printing offers many advantages compared to other textile printing techniques:
- The investment cost of the DTF printing line is less than a Brother GTX Pro Bulk printer or an Epson F3000.
- DTF printing is economical, almost 50% compared to direct-to-garment digital printing.
- Quick and easy application, no need to weed your DTF transfer.
- Apply to the vast majority of textiles.
- A soft touch and truly flexible print.
- Rendering more vibrant colours and brighter white.
